STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - Swedish telecoms gear maker Ericsson said on Wednesday it was confident it would win a patent infringement dispute with Samsung after the South Korean firm filed a counter-claim in a court in the United States.
Cut-throat competition between technology firms has spilled over into the courts in recent years as companies fight for market share and to recoup some of the billions of dollars they spend on research and development.
In November, Ericsson filed a lawsuit in the United States saying Samsung had refused to sign a license to use telecom and network technology on fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) terms.
Ericsson has asked the International Trade Commission to ban the sale of certain Samsung products in the United States, the world's biggest telecom market.
In a counterclaim, Samsung rejected Ericsson's claims.
Ericsson said it was aware of the counterclaim filed by Samsung in a district court in Texas.
"We are confident that the court will resolve the claims in our favor," the Swedish firm said.
